Korean Beef Bulgogi with rice is a popular Korean dish made with thinly sliced beef that is marinated in a flavorful sauce and grilled or stir-fried. It is a staple of Korean cuisine and can be found at many Korean BBQ restaurants and in home kitchens.
The marinade for beef bulgogi typically includes soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, Korean pear, and various spices and aromatics, which gives the beef its signature savory and slightly sweet flavor.
Beef bulgogi is often served with steamed rice and a variety of side dishes, such as kimchi, pickled vegetables, and roasted vegetables. It is a delicious and satisfying meal that is perfect for a quick dinner or for an extensive table spread for more festive occasions.
Step 1
Start off with mixing the following ingredients in a blender; onions, ⅔ spring onions, sesame oil, soy sauce, brown sugar, Asian pear, garlic, ginger, and optional gojuchang. Mix until you have a smooth marinade and add this to your thinly sliced beef. Let this marinate in the refrigerator for anywhere between 1-8 hours.
Step 2
Preheat your pan on medium-high heat and add your beef mixture (don't overcrowd your pan, to ensure you are searing the meat). Fry on both sides for about two minutes per side and add your remaining marinade and cook for one more minute.
Step 3
Plate the Korean Beef Bulgogi, the rice and garnish with spring onion and sesame seeds. Enjoy!
Chefs tip
In most Asian grocery stores you can buy thinly sliced Korean BBQ or hotpot meat in the freezer section. This is also perfect for Korean Beef Bulgogi and saves you some time!
