You probably have seen this recipe whirling around social media and it became a real trend on TikTok. At first, I was a bit hesitant to try it out, until one day I had leftover sushi rice and decided to give it a go. I tweaked the recipe a bit because the salmon tartare was lacking flavor. But in general, I would highly recommend trying it out!

I think everybody likes a slightly spicy salmon tartare with something crispy as a vessel. With this crispy rice salmon bites recipe, you can serve your guests something different than usual while still keeping it relatively cheap and easy. The only downside of this recipe is that you have to cook the rice a day in advance. Let us know if you think this TikTok recipe was worth the hype!

Step 1
First, we need to make sure we have cooked the sushi rice according to the package instructions a day in advance. flavor the rice with the sushi vinegar and put it into a container lined with cling film. Ideally, you put an identical container on top with something heavy inside, so it compresses your sushi rice. Put this in the fridge and let it set overnight.

Step 2
It is the next day, and now comes the easy part! Get your cooled sushi rice out of the fridge and cut it into nice bite-size pieces. Finely dice your salmon and mix in a bowl with the mayonnaise, sriracha, furikake, and the zest and juice of the lime. put it back into the fridge until we are ready to serve.

Step 3
The final step is to fry our rice cubes at around 180 degrees Celsius oil. You can do this in a fryer or a skillet as a shallow fry. In the last case make sure to turn them around halfway. Fry for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Place a nice teaspoon of your salmon tartare and a slice of jalapeno on top and you are ready to serve. Enjoy!
