Instructions

Steamed Bao buns with sticky, sweet and spicy shrimps. Topped with fresh cilantro and crispy vegetables. Easy to make and your guests will be impressed. Usually these bao buns are eaten with all kinds of protein, but one of the most popular version is slow braised pork belly. That version is absolutely delicious, but will set you back at least 3 hours in prep/waiting time.

Today we are using shrimp, because they cook quickly and then we are adding our Thai Thunder spicy sauce. This sauce is made with fresh ginger, lime leaves, fish sauce, toasted rice powder, fermenten rawit chili’s, and much more fragrant ingredients. So this will save you time, but will deliver on flavor. You can easily substitute the shrimps for chicken or pork cutlets but make sure to use this Thai Thunder spicy sauce!

Step 1
Start by prepping your veggies, so everything is ready to go when the shrimp and the buns are done.

Step 2
Put on your steamer basket, or check package instructions for the preparation of your bao buns. Usually I steam them for about 8-10 minutes with the water on low-medium heat. This gives us the time to prep our shrimps.

Step 3
Now combine two tablespoons of Thai Thunder with two tablespoons of mayonaise and set aside together with the the other condiments.

Step 4
heat a frying pan on medium-high heat, add 1 tbsp of vegetable oil and fry your shrimp 1.5 minutes on both sides. remove from the pan and add your sugar and two tablespoons of Thai Thunder and a splash of water. Let this thicken a bit and then add your shrimp back in for 1 more minute untill evenly coated. Turn off the heat and set aside.

Step 5
Now it's time to build our bao's! Start with some of the sauce and add your condiments and shrimp in layers. Sprinkle with some chopped cilantro and enjoy your meal!
